Architecture failures

when you design a building you must design it carefully. if you don't do that you make a failure. because you design the building for other people. i don't know how the architect make a building like these, what is the purpose, is it planned or accident?  i think these are embarrassing but funny. even they say "nobody is perfect" but we must try as professional as we can do. these are simple failure but you must notice that.
I hope you will not make a building like these.

So please be careful when you design or make a building..,

"An Ice Cream Truck for Architecture Dorks"

I consider my self as a sweet tooth and I have an unhealthy obsession with street food vendors. This post is dedicated to fellow sweet tooth and street food enthusiast.

The concept of food truck is foreign to indonesian soil, which is a shame. Coolhaus is a concept food truck that specializes in sweet food, particularly ice creams. They name their flavors after architects and architectural movements they were inspired by. Their concept is a merge of Bauhaus, an influential modernist design movement of the 1920′s and 30′s, Rem Koolhaas, the famous Dutch Architect and Theorist who challenged the mantra "Form follows function" and sweet sweet ice cream descibred as " a cookie roof and floor slab with an ice cream walls". They are all about quality and sustainability, their ice cream are all natural, hand-made and organic.

for more information on Coolhaus and their scheduled locations go to http://eatcoolhaus.com/. You'll need to be willing to travel for they are mobile and they won't stay in one location for long.

The Invisible Bridge

Designed by RO&AD Architects of the Netherlands and Belgium, this pedestrian bridge is an access route to the Fort de Roovere, part of the 17th century defense structures. The concept and execution is so unique that from afar, it is really non-existent. All that you see is a marked line in the landscape but it appears flat and it doesn't interrupt the views of the area. Only when looking and standing parallel to it, can you experience the depth and unique experience of walking under water, all without a drop of water on your clothing.

This project named "Moses Bridge". Located in Halsteren, Municipality of Bergen op Zoom, The Netherlands, scores the land and penetrates the water using processed timber to retain the walls and resist decay.

Interesting, isn't it?

See-through Church

Hey friends!
When I browse one of my favorite website, Yatzer.com, I found this interesting church in one of their articles.

Belgian architects Pieterjan Gijs and Arnout Van Vaerenbergh have taken the concept of transparency literally into a church, as they have constructed a transparent, see-through church in the Belgian region of Haspengouw.  The project is an ambitious long-term art installation in public spaces which will be realized in different locations in Limburg, the Netherlands over the five next years as part of the Z-OUT project for Z33 House for Contemporary Art.

This ten metres structure is made of 100 stacked layers and 2000 columns of steel plates. The most interesting part of this church is the play of light and shadow which is only perceived when you are is inside the church.  During different times of the day, the church interior changes, according to the position of the sun and the direction of the sun light.  The play of light and the shadows creates a feeling of supremacy, spirituality and of something supernatural conveying religious emotionalism

Why use steel as a material? The application of steel – a rather bold material - metaphorically makes a statement about the bold relationship of church and religion in the Netherlands.  According to the architects, the amount of church goers is constantly decreasing; the churches themselves are falling into disuse more and more often, therefore the future of these emptying and abandoned churches is a current issue among several artists.

This are the video of the church construction

This project named "Read Between Lines" - to perceive or detect an obscure or unexpressed meaning – translating the meaning of transparency from the realm of information to the realm of the observable, the evident and the real. While the traditional understanding of transparency refers to knowing everything there is to know, 'Reading between the Lines' extends the idea of the transparent as the unseen or even the covert.

In conclusion, Gijs and Van Vaerenbergh in collaboration with Z33 for the Z-OUT project introduce art, through architecture, into a public space that enters into a dialogue with its surroundings both formally and content-wise.

The Fun Theory

Have you ever thought why people sometimes don't obey the rules? Hmm, maybe because obeying the rules sounds boring!

The Fun Theory is a concept of changing people's behavior with a twist of fun way. The idea was initiated by the VW company to promote their smart car, butthen The Fun Theory becomes a competition of creating small and fun ideas to change people's behavior and make that idea came true.

Here's some videos of The Fun Theory ideas, enjoy! ;)

Why speeding up when you can get money without it!

A Trip to Crystal of Knowledge Library

Good evening friends! How’s your final exam week? I hope that we will all do well in our final!

In this post want to share my experience in visiting our campus library.
So, I was inspired by Ristina’s post about a unique library which is located in Netherland. The library offers a unique concept that looks very comfortable with complete collection of books. So a few weeks ago, when we have essay assignment for the class, I intended to find books as a reference of my essay in the library. I found out there are things that should be improved in our campus library service.

As we know, our library has its own website which is http://lontar.ui.ac.id/ . In this website we can easily find the books that we want to get, unfortunately I think that the database of the books isn’t well managed. I find it hard to find books that I want. The next day, I visit the library to search the books that I needed, and because I can’t find it in the book-directory in the website, I start to search it manually. I spent 2 hours before I found the book that I was searching for. The librarian are not so helpful, when I asked about the book that I was searching, they were only telling me the block where architecture books could be found and  tell me to find the exact location  in the book-directory. Beside that, I think the librarians are not friendly at all. I was going to borrow some books, the librarian ask my student card and the books while still focusing on his computer, and when the borrowing procedure was finished, he gave me the books without saying anything. Another thing that upset me is the circulation of the books which I think is very slow. A view month ago, when we’re having the lecture assignment in Visual Art class, I decided to borrow a book about Pop Art, so I search it in the library book directory. I found a book about Pop Art then take note on the book’s code, but when I tried to find it in the library, I couldn’t find, so I thought that maybe someone had borrowed it, so I asked the librarian. He said that the book was borrowed by someone. For some weeks I waited till the book was returned, but not until a few weeks ago I could found the book in the library. I’m a bit disappointed when the book I need were not there at the first time when I really need it, maybe the book directory should also gives us the information when a book is borrowed by someone else, so that we don’t waste our time going to  the library just to check whether the book we need is available.

A library should be a comfortable place since it plays a big role in our academic life. I think it should be a good idea for our library to make an improvement on its service quality, so that in the future our library could be a comfortable place to gain knowledge, even though it is not really as unique as the library that we found in Ristina’s post.
